Nord Stream

is an offshore gas pipeline that links Russia and the European Union via the Baltic Sea. It is a joint project of four major companies: Gazprom, BASF SE/Wintershall Holding GmbH, E.ON Ruhrgas AG, and N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie.

The pipeline will transport up to 55 billion cubic metres of gas a year, and its target markets include Germany, Great Britain, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, and other countries.

Nord Stream connects Russia’s Vyborg on the Baltic coast to Germany’s Greifswald, running for approximately 1,200 kilometres.

Nord Stream is a transnational project whose construction is regulated by international conventions and national legislation of each state whose maritime belt and/or exclusive economic zone the pipeline runs through.
