South Stream

is a system of gas pipeline linking Russia and the European Union along the bottom of the Black Sea.

The projected Black Sea section was about 900 kilometres long, with the maximum depth of over 2 kilometres.

The overall investment was estimated at over $10 billion.

The gas pipeline was expected to carry up to 30 billion cubic metres of gas per year.

In April 2014, the European Parliament recommended that this project be abandoned.
