Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants, organisers, and guests of the White Rook National Open Chess Competition among school teams.
The message reads, in part:
“The history of your tournaments spans more than half a century. They have always generated great interest among chess enthusiasts of all ages; they are rightly renowned for their spirit of fair competition and friendly atmosphere, and have become a true celebration of sport, knowledge, and friendly interaction for participants and guests from Russia and abroad.
Continuing these long-standing traditions, the current competition has once again united talented and creative young people who value the ideals and principles of the ancient art of chess and strive for the heights of mastery. I am confident that the White Rook will continue to develop, strengthen its status and expand its reach, promoting chess in our country and around the world.”
