Telephone conversation with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev

July 6, 2015

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

Mr Putin congratulated Mr Nazarbayev on his 75th birthday.

The two presidents discussed matters concerning the strategic partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan, further development of Eurasian integration, and a number of international issues, including the crisis in Ukraine and the results of the Greek referendum.

Mr Putin and Mr Nazarbayev agreed to hold a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the upcoming BRICS and  Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summits in Ufa.

Earlier, Mr Putin sent Mr Nazarbayev a message of congratulations on his birthday.

The President said, in particular, in his message:

“You have deservedly won tremendous respect and influence in your native Kazakhstan and far abroad. Over these years as President, you have ensured peace and harmony in the country and built a modern democratic society. Under your leadership, Kazakhstan is making confident strides in developing its society, economy, science and technology, and plays an active part in resolving current international issues.

Your personal contribution to developing the alliance and strategic partnership between our countries is well known. I am genuinely pleased that your idea of the Eurasian Economic Union has become reality this year, as you celebrate your 75th jubilee. I am sure that continued implementation of this ambitious project will strengthen multilateral cooperation, good-neighbourly relations and mutual understanding throughout the entire Eurasian region.

I value greatly our friendly and constructive relations and hope of course to continue working closely together.”
