Vladimir Putin congratulated film director, screenplay writer and National Artist of the USSR Georgy Daneliya on his 85th birthday.
The President said, in particular, in his message:
“You belong to that constellation of outstanding masters who have written memorable pages in the history of our country’s culture. You began your professional career with a brilliant debut as a director, and over your years of fruitful work, you have built up your creative capital and created a rich gallery of marvellous films, each of which bears witness to your expansive and original talent, flawless artistic taste, and particular gift for putting together wonderful teams of actors.”
Georgy Daneliya has been awarded the USSR and Russian Federation state prizes, and has won numerous awards at various film festivals, including the main prizes at the festivals in Karlovy Vary, Venice, Milan, San Sebastian, Moscow, Varna and others, and special awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
