Meeting with President of France Francois Hollande

October 2, 2015, Paris

Vladimir Putin met with President of the French Republic Francois Hollande at the Elysee Palace. The heads of state discussed current matters in bilateral cooperation as well as Syrian issues.

Vladimir Putin told Francois Hollande about the Russian Air Force’s operation in Syria, as well as the mechanisms being put in place by the Russian Federation for exchanging information with interested parties in the region, particularly about the work of the coordination centre in Bagdad.

The President stressed that Russia is prepared to engage in information coordination and work to seek further settlement of the Syrian problem jointly with all other interested nations.

The President of Russia particularly stressed that the operation in Syria being carried out by the Russian Air Force is in strict accordance with the principles of international law – in this case, following a request by the Syrian leadership – and is aimed at combatting terrorist extremist organisations.

During the meeting, the parties also expressed satisfaction with the settlement of the Mistral issue and hope that the spirit of mutual understanding and partnership will prevail in resolving other issues on the agenda for the Russian-French relations.

Participants in the meeting on the Russian side included Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office and Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of France Alexander Orlov.
