Meeting with Governor of Khabarovsk Territory Vyacheslav Shport

October 5, 2015, Novo-Ogaryovo, Moscow Region

Vladimir Putin met with Governor of Khabarovsk Territory Vyacheslav Shport to discuss the region’s socioeconomic development.

Mr Shport said the regional economy is centred on the coal sector, oil refinery, timber processing, and defence industry enterprises. Work continues on establishing two priority development areas, which will host import replacement production facilities, in particular, facilities producing components for aircraft manufacturing, composite materials, and instruments.

The region has achieved positive results in the fishing industry, with 60 percent of products now going to the domestic market. Timber processing has increased to a figure of 40 percent, and of the 5 million cubic metres of timber produced in the region 2 million cubic metres now undergo processing locally. The region is attracting new investment. In particular, Japanese company JGC is building a high-tech greenhouse facility for growing vegetables.

Mr Shport said that the region is implementing the May 2012 presidential executive orders and has achieved positive results in its demographic policy.
