Message of greetings to African leaders

May 25, 2016

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to African heads of state and government on Africa Day.

The message reads, in part:

“Accept our sincere greetings on Africa Day, a holiday that symbolises unity and mutual assistance among African nations and their victory in the difficult struggle for freedom and independence.

Today, African states are moving confidently along the path of socioeconomic and technological progress and are playing an increasing role in dealing with current issues on the international agenda. Russia highly values and supports the efforts of the African Union and other regional and subregional integration associations on the continent to promote mutually beneficial multilateral cooperation and develop an effective system of crisis response, peacekeeping and post-conflict settlement.

We intend to continue to strengthen our relations of friendship and cooperation with African states and to participate in various Africa support programmes and projects implemented by the UN, G20, BRICS and other international organisations.”

The President of Russia wished African leaders success in their official capacities and peace and prosperity to African nations.
