Mr Borisov briefed Vladimir Putin on the socioeconomic situation in the region.

Mr Borisov said the region’s economic growth trend continues. Programmes implemented upon presidential instruction given back in 2006 have produced results. Over these years, 1.5 trillion rubles were invested in various sectors and particular attention was given to infrastructure development.

The recent VI Children of Asia International Sports Games, which took place for the 6th time in Yakutsk on July 5–17, were also discussed at the meeting. Mr Borisov said that the sports event brought together a record number of participants this year, with 35 teams from Asian countries and 8 teams from different parts of the Russian Federation: The Urals, Siberian and Far East federal districts, and also Moscow, Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, and Yakutia. Mr Borisov said that the games, which were founded in Russia in 1996, have attracted big interest. The next Children of Asia games will take place in Mongolia.
