Mr Orlov briefed the President on the creation of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Federal Research Centre for Comprehensive Arctic Studies, which will focus on enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the Arctic energy base, developing the continental shelf, enabling Russia to exercise its sovereign rights within the exclusive economic zone, creating a single telecommunications information space, and eliminating human environmental impacts.

At the end of August, celebrations will take place marking the 75th anniversary of the arrival in Arkhangelsk of the first convoy that delivered goods and equipment to the USSR from its allies in the anti-Hitler coalition.
