Greetings on the 1155th anniversary of Russia’s statehood

September 21, 2017

Vladimir Putin congratulated the participants of the events held to celebrate the 1155th anniversary of Russia’s statehood and the 155th anniversary of the Millennium of Russia monument.

The message reads, in part:

“This anniversary marks an important period in Russian history, when our forefathers made a decision back in 862 to create a strong state based on unity and accord.

It is symbolic that these celebrations are held in the ancient Novgorod land, the birthplace of Russia’s traditions of statehood and the rich cultural, spiritual and moral heritage of our people, as well as our military glory. The Millennium of Russia monument was unveiled here 155 years ago in recognition of Veliky Novgorod’s contribution and its unique role in the history of our country.

All of us must respect the achievements of the numerous generations before us, uphold the timeless values of patriotism and work for the welfare and prosperity of our Motherland.”
