Greetings on the opening of the Historical Truth Hall at the Victory Museum

May 8, 2018

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants and guests of the opening ceremony for the Historical Truth Hall at the Victory Museum.

The message reads, in part:

“This grand event has gathered at the Victory Museum war veterans, participants of the search and volunteer movements, workers of military history museums and memorials, and academics from Russia and other countries.

The Great Victory is our shared holiday and part of the shared heritage of the peoples who fought shoulder to shoulder at the fronts, in guerrilla units, and the resistance movement. We are indebted to the heroes and must preserve the truth about the war for future generations, uphold the honour, dignity, and the good name of the living and the fallen, and firmly oppose any attempts to falsify historical facts.

Therefore, I consider the opening of the new display an important and timely initiative. Unique documents and rare archival materials are presented here in cutting-edge multimedia formats, telling about the origins of Nazism, the key events of World War II and the Great Patriotic War, and the invaluable experience of cooperation between the nations of the anti-Hitler coalition.

I am confident that this spacious exhibition room will attract the attention of both professional historians and numerous guests. It will be a wonderful gift for war veterans, the real witnesses of those distant events, and for everyone who loves our Motherland and is proud of its military history.”
