Working meeting with Acting Governor of Primorye Territory Andrei Tarasenko

September 11, 2018, Vladivostok

During his visit to the Primorye Territory, Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with the region’s Acting Governor Andrei Tarasenko.

The President suggested talking about difficult problems and the assistance that the region needs. Andrei Tarasenko told the President about the consequences of heavy rains in late August – early September. They affected 12 municipal entities and 299 residential buildings. The road infrastructure sustained heavy damage; 34,000 hectares of agricultural lands were lost, and 7,500 people were affected by the disaster. The authorities drafted an appeal to the Government for the construction of a dam. In addition, Mr Tarasenko noted that the region has 1,600 old bridges that may not withstand natural disasters. The region requires federal assistance in this respect as well.

However, on the whole, the regional economy managed to cope with the budget deficit. Federal assistance, in particular in healthcare, also helped in this regard. At the same time, there is a 50 percent shortage of doctors in the region’s hospitals, as well as a shortage of specialists in other areas.

All of the territory’s urgent issues were discussed in detail during the meeting.
