Vladimir Putin held a regular meeting with permanent members of the Security Council where they discussed the protection of Russian military in Syria, the results of regional elections and a number of other issues.
The agenda included measures to enhance the security of the Russian military in the Syrian Arab Republic after the crash of the Il-20 aircraft near the Khmeimim base.
In addition, the participants exchanged views on the September 9 elections in Russia.
Separately, they discussed different aspects of Russian-Belarusian cooperation in the context of preparations for the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko in Sochi on September 21.
They also reviewed current issues of Russia’s socio-economic development.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Anton Vaino, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, Minister of the Interior Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Director of the Federal Security Service Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin and Special Presidential Representative for Environmental Protection, Ecology and Transport Sergei Ivanov.
