Winners of the 2013 President’s Prize for literature and art for children and young people

Vladislav Krapivin – winner of the 2013 President’s prize for literature and art for children and young people.

Mr Krapivin was awarded the prize for his contribution to literature for children and for instilling patriotic values among the younger generation.

Vladislav Krapivin is a writer from Yekaterinburg.

Born on October 14, 1938 in Tyumen, Mr Krapivin has written over 350 works of literature for children and young people. All of his realistic, social, philosophical and fantasy works help bring out the best human qualities, such as love for one’s country and a sense of responsibility for what is happening around you. The most popular books by Mr Krapivin were published in more than a million copies. His works were translated into 32 languages, and more than ten of them have been adapted for the screen.

Fifty-three years ago, Mr Krapivin organised and stood at the head of the Caravella children’s union, where several thousand boys and girls were given a civic and patriotic education.

Mr Krapivin received the Order of Honour in 2009, and is a laureate of a number of national and international literary awards.

Eduard Nazarov — winner of the 2013 President’s prize for literature and art for children and young people.

Mr Nazarov was awarded the prize for his contribution to the development of animated films.

Eduard Nazarov is an animated film director from Moscow.

Born in Moscow on November 23, 1941, Mr Nazarov is the Artistic Director of the Pilot animated film studio and President of the International Animated Films Festival KROK.

Eduard Nazarov is the production and art director and scriptwriter of over 20 animated films, which are known for their unity of content, author’s intonation, design and animation. They are loved by many generations of viewers of all ages. In 2012, his animated film Once Upon a Dog was named best animated film of the Golden Hundred of national animation in the 100 years of its existence.

Mr Nazarov established a School for Animated Film Directors and Artists, whose graduates form the vanguard of national animated filmmaking.

In 2012, Eduard Nazarov received the title of People’s Artist of the Russian Federation. He is also a laureate of the 1988 Vasilyev Brothers’ State Prize and winner of a number of awards from national and international festivals.

Alexander Traugot — winner of the 2013 President’s prize for literature and art for children and young people.

Mr Traugot was awarded the prize for his contribution to the development of book illustration for children and young people.

 Alexander Traugot is an artist from St Petersburg.

He was born on June 19, 1931, into what later became known as the Traugot dynasty of graphic artists: father Georgy Traugot and sons Valery and Alexander. Alexander has illustrated over 200 works of Russian and foreign classical works of literature for children and young people. The images he creates continue the best traditions of the national school of illustrating books for children and young people, known for their expression, metaphoric nature and depth. The artist combines a modern approach with a good measure of historical verity. Many generations of children were brought up on books illustrated by Mr Traugot, which were published in Russia and abroad in over 80 million copies.

Alexander Traugot received the title of Distinguished Artist of the Russian Federation in 2005, and won diplomas of various national book competitions.
