The 2014 President of the Russian Federation’s Prize for writing and art for children and young people has been awarded to Yevgeny Krylatov.
The prize was awarded for his contribution to Russia’s musical arts and aesthetic and moral education of children.
Yevgeny Krylatov is a composer.
He was born on February 23, 1934, in Lysva, Perm Region. He was awarded the title of National Artist of the Russian Federation in 1994, won the USSR State Prize in 1982, the Lenin Komsomol Prize in 1987, and was awarded the Order of Honour in 2010.
He has written the music for more than 140 artistic, documentary and animation films and is the composer of more than 100 children’s songs, many of which have achieved wide popularity.
His works have been highly appraised by his contemporaries. They continue Russia’s national musical traditions and are infused with faith in goodness, nobility, sincerity and compassion. Several generations have grown up on his songs and music and even today, his numerous meetings with young listeners become real musical celebrations.

The prize was awarded for his contribution to developing Russian art in the field of children’s and youth book illustration.
Yevgeny Medvedev is an artist and illustrator.
He was born on November 9, 1934, in Moscow and is one of Russia’s oldest and best-known artists and illustrators. He has done the illustrations for more than 200 publications that are part of the classical collection of Russian literature for children and youth. Readers have seen the heroes of numerous beloved children’s books through Mr Medvedev’s eyes.

The prize was awarded for developing Russia’s musical arts and aesthetic and moral education of children.
Mikhail Khokhlov is director of the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow.
He was born on January 9, 1955, in Moscow. He was awarded the title of Merited Arts Figure of the Russian Federation in 2007, and won the Moscow Prize for Literature and Arts in 2001.
The Gnessin College dates back to 1895 and is one of Russia’s most prestigious music schools, counting world-famous musicians and cultural figures among its graduates. Mr Khokhlov has headed the school since 1989. His multifaceted activity has produced many educational and creative projects, including the establishment of the youth chamber orchestra, The Gnessin Virtuosos, organisation of the children’s arts festival, January Evenings, a series of multimedia teaching aids, Musical Education on Electronic Medium, and organisation of the Troitsk Art Musical Academy.
