The 2022 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Art has been given to Andrei Golubeiko and Alexandra Orlovskaya for their longstanding fundamental work to restore Ilya Repin’s painting, Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan on November 16, 1581.
Andrei Golubeiko was born on October 24, 1964, in the village of Makarovo, Orekhovo-Zuevsky District in the Moscow Region. He is a top-level art restoration specialist, head of the department for scientific restoration of 18th-20th century oil easel painting at the State Tretyakov Gallery national museum association, and head of the easel oil painting section of the State Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. He was awarded the medal of the Order for Services to the Fatherland, II Degree (1995).
Alexandra Orlovskaya was born on August 4, 1975, in Moscow. She is a top-level art restoration specialist, an employee of the department for scientific restoration of 18th-20th century oil easel painting at the State Tretyakov Gallery national museum association and member of the easel oil painting section of the State Attestation Commission under the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. She was honoured with a commendation from the Central Naval Museum.
In 2018, a major project was launched at the State Tretyakov Gallery to restore Ilya Repin's painting, Ivan the Terrible and His Son Ivan on November 16, 1581, after it was vandalised on several occasions.
A special restoration workshop with climatic and lighting equipment was created. To carry out complex multitask work on the oversize canvas, a one-of-a-kind multifunctional restoration complex was used (Andrei Golubeiko was responsible for its development, design and manufacture) along with unique restoration and reconstruction methods (innovative methods were developed by Alexandra Orlovskaya). The restoration team carried out tremendous research, archival, analytical and restoration work to restore the damaged masterpiece.
In May 2022, once the restoration was fully complete, the painting went back on public display at the State Tretyakov Gallery.
The 2022 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Art has been presented to Alexandra PERMYAKOVA for her contribution to the preservation and development of folk art traditions.
Alexandra Permyakova was born on October 17, 1949, in the village of Piterka, Tambov Region. She is the Artistic Director of the Pyatnitsky State Russian Folk Choir. People’s Artist of the Russian Federation (2007), she was awarded the Order for Services to the Fatherland, IV Degree (2019) and the Order of Honour (2011). Winner of the Russian Government Award in Culture (2009), as well as departmental, regional and church awards.
Ms Permyakova is a unique and unsurpassed master of professional stage folk art. She has devoted over 50 years of her creative career to the Pyatnitsky Choir. Having headed the choir in 1995, she preserved its unique team and high traditions of Russian folk songs. Previously lost original pieces of musical, dance and song folklore from all regions of Russia received a new lease of life in the choir’s repertoire.
Now the Pyatnitsky Choir is the country’s leading creative team, a true folk art laboratory that unites traditions and the high professionalism of performers with new forms and modern stage solutions.
The 2022 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Art has been presented to Konstantin ERNST, Klim SHIPENKO and Yulia PERESILD for making the film Vyzov [The Challenge].
Konstantin Ernst was born on February 6, 1961, in Moscow. He is the co-author of the idea and producer of the film The Challenge. A Full Cavalier of the Order for Services to the Fatherland, he received a Certificate of Honour from the President of the Russian Federation (2009) and the President’s commendations (2004, 2008 and 2018). Winner of the 2003 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Art.
Mr Ernst is General Director of Channel One, one of the most influential figures on national television, the founder of numerous media projects, TV and film producer and a public figure.
Klim Shipenko was born on June 16, 1983, in Moscow. Director and camera operator of the film The Challenge. He has won professional awards and prizes.
Mr Shipenko is a director, screenwriter, producer and actor. He made about 20 feature films, including Kholop [The Serf] (one of the top grossing movies of the past decade), Salyut-7, and Text (voted the best movies of 2016 and 2019, respectively). He is the first professional director and camera operator to have made a feature film in outer space.
Yulia Peresild was born on September 5, 1984, in Pskov. She starred in the film The Challenge. A Merited Artist of the Russian Federation (2018), she won the Presidential Prize for Young Culture Professionals (2013), as well as other professional awards and prizes.
Ms Peresild is one of the leading national stage and screen actresses with a filmography of over 70 movies. The first professional actor to be filmed in outer space. A public figure and a co-founder of the Galchonok Charity Foundation for Children and Young People with Organic Lesions of the Central Nervous System.
The Challenge is the first full-length feature film to be shot in space by professional filmmakers. It is a unique event in global cinema. The filmmakers continue the scientific and education traditions of domestic cinema art, which embody the dreams of the younger generation about discoveries, exploits and new accomplishments.
The film was premiered on April 12, 2023, and released on April 20, 2023. Over 5 million people saw the film in the first six weeks.
