The 2010 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Arts is conferred to Evgeny Mironov for his contribution to the development of Russian theatre and cinema

Evgeny Mironov, born on November 29, 1966 in Saratov, is the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation (2004). He won the 1996 Russian Federation National Award in Literature and Arts and holds many professional prizes and awards. Mr Mironov is the artistic director of the Theatre of Nations.

By the mid-1990s, Evgeny Mironov had become a bright star in Russian theatre. He played leading roles in well-known international theatre projects such as Hamlet and The Oresteia by German director Peter Stein, Boris Godunov by English director Declan Donnellan, The Last Night of the Last Czar and The Karamazovs and Hell directed by Valery Fokin, and The Cherry Orchard directed by Eimuntas Nekrosius.

Evgeny Mironov has also gained widespread fame and recognition as a film actor.

Since December 2006, Mr Mironov has been the artistic director of the Theatre of Nations. Under his leadership, it has become one of the centres of theatrical life in Russia. His work is developing in several areas: Russian small town theatre festival, the Shakespeare festival, a programme for young directors, and international theatre projects.

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Mr Mironov is actively engaged in public activity and charity work. Since 2004, he has been a member of the Presidential Council for Culture and Art. Since 2005, the international Territoria festival of contemporary art has been held with his active participation. The goal of the festival is to acquaint students and professionals – first and foremost, from Russia’s provinces – with contemporary art works created across different genres, broadening the horizons of what is possible and imaginable. The Action to Support Russian Theatre Initiatives prize is awarded annually on the actor’s initiative. Mr Mironov is the founder of the Artist and National Theatrical Initiatives not-for-profit funds and participates in other philanthropic projects.
