The 2010 Russian Federation National Award in Science and Technology is conferred to Artem Kobzev, Anatoly Lukyanov and Mikhail Titarenko for exceptional achievements in the development of Russian and global Sinology and preparation of the fundamental academic encyclopaedia Spiritual Culture of China
Artem Kobzev, born on October 15, 1953 in Moscow, is a Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, professor, and head research scholar at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is an exceptional Sinologist, the author of over one thousand publications on ethical and legal issues, as well as philosophical teachings of China, which have been translated and published in many nations in the East and West. Mr Kobzev is a leading author and deputy chief editor of the Spiritual Culture of China encyclopaedia.
Anatoly Lukyanov, born on October 28, 1948 in Ivanovo, is a Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, professor, head of the Centre for Comparative Studies of the Civilisations of Northeast Asia at the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Far East Institute, and deputy chief editor of the Spiritual Culture of China encyclopaedia. He is the author of many scientific works and manuals, and was the first to introduce the concept of Chinese philosophy as a cultural foundation. He suggested the modern typology for Eastern and Western civilisations and variations of their cultural dialogue. Mr Lukyanov has received high awards from China for his exceptional input into cultural exchange between China and foreign nations, as well as the translation and publication of Chinese books.
Mikhail Titarenko, born on April 27, 1934 in the village of Lakomaya Buda in Bryansk Region, is an academician at the Russian Academy of Sciences, a Doctor of Philosophical Sciences, a professor and the director of the Far East Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He is also a researcher and translator of classical Chinese literature. He is the organiser, manager, chief editor and author of a unique work in global humanitarian science: the six-volume Spiritual Culture of China encyclopaedia. Mr Titarenko is the author of the first dictionaries and anthologies on ancient Chinese and global philosophy in Russian Sinology. He laid the foundations for studying the special features of the dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures. For many years, he has been the permanent chair of the Russian-Chinese Friendship Association and the recipient of high awards from the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.
