Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Ratification of the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance and Cooperation in Criminal Cases and Administrative Offences between the Customs Union Member States.
This agreement’s conclusion was dictated by the need to establish the legal base of the Customs Union within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC), taking into account the deeper economic integration pursued by the Russian Federation, the Republic of Belarus, and the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The agreement sets out forms of interaction between the three countries’ customs authorities in solving crimes and pursuing criminal or civil prosecution of those guilty of violating the laws of the Customs Union and its member states. The agreement introduces simplified procedures for cooperation between the customs authorities as compared to the provisions contained in other international agreements.
The agreement was signed in Astana (Kazakhstan) on July 5, 2010.
