Executive Order on celebrating 100th anniversary of Ioffe Physical Technical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences

November 25, 2017

Vladimir Putin has signed the Executive Order On Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Ioffe Physical Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The President has instructed the Government to establish an organising committee to arrange the anniversary celebrations and supervise the development of the key events of the programme. Regional authorities have been recommended to participate in the preparations as well.

The Ioffe Physical Technical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences is one of Russia’s largest science centres involved in fundamental and applied research in the major areas of modern physics and technology. Five Nobel Prize winners have worked at the institute over the years, including Nikolai Semyonov, Lev Landau, Pyotr Kapitsa, Igor Tamm and Zhores Alferov, as well as other world-famous scientists.

The institute was founded back in 1918 by Abram Ioffe (1880–1960) who was its Director for several decades. In 1960, the institute was named after this outstanding scientist and science functionary.
