Law on the possibility of recognising the activities of foreign or international organisations established by foreign government agencies as being undesirable on the territory of Russia

August 8, 2024

Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of the Russian Federation.

The Federal Law provides for the possibility of recognising the activities of foreign or international organisations established by or whose participants include foreign government agencies, but which do not operate within the structure of foreign government authorities, as being undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation.

At the same time, just as before, the activities of international intergovernmental organisations whose members include the Russian Federation cannot be designated as undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation.

In addition to this, the Federal Law introduces corresponding amendments to federal laws on non-profit organisations, on procedures related to entering or exiting from the Russian Federation, on information, information technology and protection of information. These amendments are designed to make sure that corresponding restrictions cover foreign and international organisations established by or whose participants include foreign government bodies and which were recognised as being undesirable on the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as persons engaged in these activities.
