Law on a new memorable date in Russia

July 25, 2010

Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Amendments to Article 1 of the Federal Law On Dates of Military Glory and Memorable Dates in Russia.

The Federal Law introduces a new memorable date in Russia: September 2 – End of World War II (1945) Day.

September 2, 1945, was the date that Japan signed the act of unconditional surrender. The allied countries that took part in the military operations, including the Soviet Union, added their signatures to this document. This date marked the end of World War II.
