Adviser to the President and Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev had a meeting, via videoconference, with UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change and Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber.
The conversation became the starting point for full-scale cooperation with the UAE on climate issues.
The parties presented their vision of state regulation of greenhouse gas emissions and the development of low-carbon technologies. Taking into account the importance of hydrocarbon production for both countries’ economic balance, they agreed on the need to diversify and adapt carbon-intensive industries to the changes in the global trade environment. At the same time, Ruslan Edelgeriyev and Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber were unanimous in their assessment of changes in demand for hydrocarbons in the medium and long term.
The parties outlined the potential areas of cooperation between Russia and the UAE in combating climate change, including the joint development of hydrogen energy, carbon sequestration technologies, agriculture and scientific research. Mr Edelgeriyev stressed that introducing protectionist measures using the climate agenda as a pretext is unacceptable.
Ruslan Edelgeriyev and Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber noted with satisfaction the high level of relations between the Russian Federation and the United Arab Emirates and expressed hope for expanding cooperation.
