CSTO Collective Security Council session

October 14, 2016, Yerevan

Vladimir Putin took part in a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO).

The participants discussed, in particular, developments in the CSTO zone of responsibility, ways of upgrading the CSTO collective security system and measures to counter international terrorism.

The leaders of the CSTO member-states adopted a package of documents at the expanded session of the summit. They signed the following resolutions of the CSTO Collective Security Council: The Strategy of CSTO Collective Security for the Period through 2025, A List of Additional Measures on Countering International Terrorism and Extremism in the CSTO format, and Provisions on Compiling a Master List of Organisations Recognised as Terrorist in the CSTO Format. The CSTO heads of state also signed statements on the Nagorny Karabakh conflict, namely The Impact of Unilateral Measures to Deploy Global Missile Defence on International Security and Stability, and Ensuring Security of National Frontiers in the CSTO Zone of Responsibility. They also signed a number of other documents, in particular, on the CSTO crisis response centre, standardisation of hardware and combat equipment in the CSTO format, joint training of military personnel for the armed forces of CSTO member-states and CSTO emergency response.

In addition, the CSTO leaders adopted a statement on common approaches to the main threats and challenges of today.

Armenia handed over the  CSTO presidency to Belarus.
