Dmitry Medvedev sent a congratulatory message to President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the 20th anniversary of his nation’s independence.
The message reads, in part:
“Today, your republic is developing dynamically, achieving tangible success in the economic and social sectors, strengthening its foreign policy positions in the region and the world. On this memorable day, we pay tribute to the national leader of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, who contributed a great deal to forming the foundations of this modern democratic state, strengthening the traditional friendship, good neighbourly relations, and mutual cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan.
I am particularly pleased to remark on our mutual desire to further deepen our relations of strategic partnership, which have become an important factor for stability and security in the Caucasus and the Caspian Region over the last several years.
I am certain that our fruitful political dialogue, as well as the implementation of agreements we have reached in the trade and economic, investment, humanitarian, and other sectors, will continue to promote the dynamic development of multidimensional bilateral cooperation in the interest of our nations and our people.”
