Greetings to the leaders and citizens of foreign countries on the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

May 8, 2024

On the 79th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as the people of Georgia and Moldova.

In his greetings, the President of Russia stressed that we owe a deep debt of gratitude and respect to all those who bravely fought on the frontlines and selflessly worked on the home front during the harsh years of the war, bringing the long-awaited victory closer at the cost of colossal sacrifice and loss.

“It is important to prevent any attempts to distort or erase our shared history. We must carefully preserve and pass on the glorious traditions of friendship and mutual support that helped our ancestors overcome the hardships of war and crush Nazism,” the President of Russia noted.

Vladimir Putin expressed his confidence in the fact that the bonds of brotherly friendship forged during the Great Patriotic War would continue to serve as a strong foundation for developing relations between our countries and peoples.

Addressing the leaders and citizens of foreign countries, the President expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Great Patriotic War veterans and home-front workers, wishing them good health, prosperity, high spirits and longevity.
