Vladimir Putin will make a series of visits on July 11–16 to Latin American countries and will take part in BRICS summit, including the BRICS-Latin America meeting planned as part of the summit.
On July 11, Mr Putin will make an official visit to Cuba at the invitation of President of the Council of State and President of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba Raul Castro.
Talks will focus in particular on developing trade, economic and investment ties, and implementing joint projects in energy, transport, civil aviation, peaceful use of outer space, and healthcare. Current international issues will also be discussed. The talks will see the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements in a range of areas.
Mr Putin will also meet with leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro during the visit.
On July 12, Mr Putin will make an official visit to Buenos Aires at the invitation of President of Argentina Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
The two presidents will discuss a broad range of bilateral cooperation matters and international issues. The main subjects of discussion will include developing trade and economic cooperation, including on joint energy projects. Bilateral agreements are expected to be signed.
On July 13–16, Mr Putin will make an official visit to Brazil, where he will have a wide-ranging programme. The President will take part in the 6th BRICS summit, hold talks with President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff and attend the closing ceremony of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, during which Russia will take the relay as host country of the next World Cup in 2018.
Bilateral talks on July 14 in Brasilia will include an exchange of views on the situation with bilateral ties and the prospects for their development, and discussion of specific cooperation projects in trade, investment, humanitarian areas, and other areas in which the two countries can deepen their strategic partnership. International affairs will also be discussed, including coordination in the UN, BRICS, the G20 and the WTO, and also through contacts with regional integration organisations in which Brazil is a member.
The 6th BRICS summit will take place on July 15–16 in Fortaleza and Brasilia. The BRICS leaders will discuss political coordination and global governance issues. A number of important economic agreements are expected to be signed, including on establishing the BRICS New Development Bank and Contingent Reserve Arrangement. The summit’s programme also includes a meeting of the BRICS-Latin American Leaders’ Dialogue Forum as part of the outreach meetings, and a meeting with the heads of the BRICS Business Council.
Mr Putin will meet on the sidelines of the BRICS summit with the leaders of China, India, and South Africa, and will also meet with a number of Latin American leaders.
