Dmitry Medvedev congratulated President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and all of the country’s people on the national holiday, Independence Day.
The message reads, part:
“It is deeply symbolic that on this day we also mark together the anniversary of the Belarus’ liberation from Nazi invaders. The great hardships of the terrible war years forged even closer bonds between our peoples, who share centuries-old traditions of good-neighbourliness and fruitful cooperation, and are bound by common cultural and spiritual values and the glorious pages of our common history.
Our task today is to take the important practical steps needed to consistently consolidate the democratic foundations of our statehood and carry out technological modernisation and social and economic development. We think that integration efforts, including within the Customs Union and Common Economic Space, will create new opportunities for achieving these objectives. I am sure that if we take each other’s interests into account and pursue a pragmatic and responsible approach to participation in regional groups such as the CIS, CSTO and Eurasian Economic Community we will make our countries more prosperous and contribute to stability and security throughout Europe.”
