Dmitry Medvedev congratulated President of Cyprus Demetris Christofias on the fiftieth anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Cyprus’ independence.
The message reads, in part:
“Russia and Cyprus have longstanding and solid ties of friendship and cooperation based on trust and mutual understanding. Today, our countries have broad new opportunities for steadily developing our political, trade and economic, and humanitarian partnership. Furthermore, the closeness of our positions on the majority of key international issues creates a solid foundation that helps to ensure stability and security across Europe and in the Mediterranean region.
I take this opportunity to reaffirm Russia’s commitment to reaching a fair, comprehensive, and viable settlement for Cyprus.
I am sure that our work together to organise the first visit by a Russian president to Cyprus in the history of our relations will further strengthen the whole range of our bilateral relations in the interests of our peoples.”
