The message reads, in part:

“Russian-German relations are steadily developing in all the different areas of our multifaceted and mutually advantageous cooperation. We are successfully pursuing major joint economic, cultural and humanitarian projects and civil society contacts.

I particularly note the Year of Russia in Germany and the Year of Germany in Russia in 2012–2013, which are taking place under the aegis of our respective countries’ heads of state. I am sure that the unprecedented wide range of events planned over this period will give a powerful boost to our bilateral ties. It is important in this context that we give this project a worthy opening at the planned ceremony in Moscow, the date of which will be finalised through our diplomatic channels.

Our countries’ tradition of constructive cooperation on the international stage also deserves high appraisal and makes a big contribution to ensuring European and global stability and security.

I hope that during your term in this high office our strategic partnership will continue to strengthen and intensify for the good of our peoples and countries.”
