Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the organisers and participants of the presentation of the course book Russia and Germany: Landmarks in the Shared History and Collective Memory of the 18th–20th Centuries.
The message reads, in part:
“The three volumes of Russia and Germany: Landmarks in the Shared History and Collective Memory of the 18th–20th Centuries have no analogues in our countries’ historiography. This unique scholarly treatise is the result of many years of work of the Joint Commission for Studying the Contemporary History of Russian-German Relations under the patronage of the President of Russia and the Federal Chancellor of Germany.
The research carried out by Russian and German experts based on a large amount of historical and archive materials helps us learn many new facts about the events of our common past and gives us an opportunity to compare different, sometimes even opposite points of view.
I am confident that this publication will spark great interest among academicians, teachers, students and history buffs in Russia and Germany, as well as promote trust and mutual understanding between our two nations. I would like to thank everyone who worked on it and to wish them further success and all the best.”
