Angela Merkel expressed sincere sympathy and solidarity with the leadership and people of the Russian Federation following the major natural disasters that swept the country, as well as certainty that the measures taken by the President and the Government will allow taking the situation under firm control and launch emergency relief operations.
Angela Merkel confirmed her offer to provide necessary assistance in this situation and expressed satisfaction at the contacts and interaction established between the relevant agencies in the two nations.
During the conversation, Mr Medvedev and Ms Merkel addressed some specific issues pertaining to bilateral relations in light of the decisions made at the Russian-German intergovernmental consultations in Yekaterinburg in June 2010, and discussed prospects for bilateral contacts.
