Dmitry Medvedev congratulated Germany's President Christian Wulff and Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel on the Day of German Unity.
The message reads, in part:
”The process of German reunification which took place 20 years ago – and to which our country made a key contribution – is of lasting historical importance for both the German people and Europe as a whole. I consider that the foundations of the current Russian-German strategic partnership were laid at that time.
Today our bilateral relationship is characterised by the successful realisation of impressive opportunities offered by mutually beneficial and fruitful cooperation. Multi-dimensional business, academic, cultural and humanitarian ties are developing steadily while large-scale projects in priority sectors are moving forward efficiently.
We highly value the efficient cooperation between Russia and Germany in international forums, which contributes to both global and regional stability and security.
The positive outcome of the latest round of interstate consultations in July 2010 in Yekaterinburg constitutes clear evidence of the constructive nature of our strategic partnership. I hope to continue our trust-based dialogue at further summits, including during the upcoming talks in Moscow and Deauville (France).“
