Russia ratified agreement with Djibouti on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters

January 30, 2026

Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law Ratifying the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Djibouti On Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.

The Agreement was signed in Moscow on August 27, 2025.

The Agreement is intended to ensure more effective cooperation between the two parties in combatting crime.

In accordance with the Agreement, the parties undertake to provide each other with legal assistance in criminal matters if the act referred to in the request for legal assistance constitutes a criminal offence under the laws of both sides.

The Agreement stipulates that legal assistance may be refused if fulfilling the request for legal assistance is detrimental to the sovereignty, security, public order or other major interests of the requested party, or if fulfilling the request contravenes the core legal principles of the requested party or the provisions of the Agreement.
