Vladimir Putin discussed in detail the escalation of tension in the Gaza Strip during a telephone conversation with President of Egypt Mohamed Morsi.
The President stressed the need to end armed confrontation and called on all sides to show restraint and end the violence that is killing peaceful civilians. Mr Putin expressed his support for Cairo’s efforts to normalise the situation.
Mr Putin and Mr Morsi also discussed current bilateral relations and emphasised their mutual interest in expanding cooperation between Russia and Egypt.
During their conversation, the two Presidents also agreed that Mr Morsi will make a visit to Russia.
