Congratulations to Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on his inauguration as President of Egypt

June 8, 2014

Vladimir Putin sent his congratulations to Abdel Fattah el-Sisi on his inauguration as President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The message reads, in part:

“Your convincing victory in the election is evidence of the considerable respect you have acquired in Egyptian society. The voting results show that Egypt’s people support your proposed measures for political stabilisation, sustained economic growth and effective resolution of social problems.

I value the constructive dialogue that we have established and the high level of trust and mutual understanding that distinguish it. I am ready to continue working with you to strengthen Russian-Egyptian relations. Our ties go back a long way and I am sure they have a bright future ahead. Our bilateral trade continues its steady growth. After a long hiatus in 2010, the Joint Russian-Egyptian Commission for Cooperation in Trade, the Economy and Science and Technology has resumed its work. The Commission’s meeting in March outlined the concrete directions for developing our multifaceted bilateral ties.

Russia and Egypt work closely together to resolve current global and regional issues. This coordination is fully in the interests of guaranteeing security in North Africa and the Middle East and helps us to take constructive steps to neutralise common threats and challenges. I am sure that Egypt under your leadership will pursue an active policy on the international stage and maintain and consolidate its leading role in the Arab and Muslim world and on the African continent.

I take this opportunity to confirm my invitation to you to visit Russia soon. The dates can be settled through diplomatic channels.”

Mr Putin wished Mr el-Sisi good fortune and success in carrying out his high mission, and wished the friendly Egyptian nation stability and prosperity.
