Meeting with President of Indonesia Joko Widodo

November 10, 2014, Beijing

Vladimir Putin met with President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo. The two leaders discussed opportunities for developing bilateral economic cooperation.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,

Mr President, it is a pleasure to meet with you personally, to congratulate you once more on your success in the elections and wish you all the very best in carrying out your important mission.

Russia and Indonesia have partnership relations. Our ties are based on longstanding friendship and have a rich history. We have a good political dialogue and our economies are developing. There were some issues at the start of this year, but I think they had their roots in the general problems we have been seeing in the global economy.

Today, we have the chance to discuss what we need to do to change this situation and what immediate steps we should take. I am pleased to have this chance to exchange views with you on all of these matters.

President of Indonesia Joko Widodo (retranslated): Mr President, I am very pleased to be able to meet with you. I want to say how much we valued the presence of your special envoy Denis Manturov [Minister of Industry and Trade] at the presidential inauguration in Jakarta.

Today, we will discuss our plans to enhance and develop the relations between Indonesia and Russia and will talk about the economy.

We invite Russia to invest in Indonesia in different areas such as energy, electric power stations, infrastructure, railways, dams, irrigation and more.
