Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to the participants of the opening ceremony of the Russian Jewish Museum of Tolerance.
The message reads, in part:
“The world's largest Museum of Jewish History and Centre of Tolerance is unique and original in many ways. Its vast collection encompasses significant periods and key events spanning from the biblical period to the present.
Archive documents in memory of World War II victims have a major place in the museum’s expositions. Both Russia and Israel cherish the sacred truth about the war. We must be clear that any attempt to revise our country's contribution to the Great Victory and any denial of the Holocaust, a shameful page in world history, are far worse than just cynical and unprincipled lies. It means forgetting the lessons of history, which may lead to future tragedies. That is why it is our shared moral duty to defend the truth, the honour, dignity and good name of the living and the dead.
I am confident that the Museum of Tolerance will be a visible embodiment of the ideals of inter-ethnic dialogue and harmony, respect and understanding between people of different cultures and religions.”
