Vladimir Putin congratulated Pranab Mukherjee on his election to the post of President of India and thanked his predecessor in office, Pratibha Patil, for her productive cooperation.
In his telegram to Pranab Mukherjee, Mr Putin highly assessed his contribution to developing mutually advantageous and fruitful bilateral relations between Russia and India, including as co-chairman of the Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation.
The President also expressed his confidence that the two countries would continue to develop their relations, which he called an important factor in shaping a just and fair multipolar world order.
In a telegram to outgoing President Pratibha Patil, Mr Putin assessed very highly the results achieved in strengthening the multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, and noted that during her term in office Russia and India took their bilateral relations to the level of privileged strategic partnership.
