Vladimir Putin sent a message of condolences to President of India Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi following the death of former President of India Abdul Kalam.
The message from the President of Russia reads, in part:
“Please accept my deep condolences following the death of former President of India Abdul Kalam.
Abdul Kalam rightfully held great international prestige as an outstanding scientist and a wise statesman. It is hard to overstate his personal input into India’s socioeconomic, science and technology development, as well as ensuring its national security.
In Russia, Abdul Kalam will be remembered as a steadfast advocate for strengthening friendly relations between our nations who did a great deal to augment mutually beneficial Russian-Indian cooperation.
Please express my words of sympathy and support to Mr Kalam’s family and loved ones, as well as the government and all the people of India.
