Dmitry Medvedev expressed his condolences to President of Italy Giorgio Napolitano over the death of Italian writer, poet and screenwriter Tonino Guerra.
The message reads, in part:
“It is with deep sadness that I learned of the death of prominent Italian writer, poet and screenwriter Tonino Guerra. This is a great loss for global culture.
The life and work of Tonino Guerra were closely associated with Russia. He was awarded Russian state decorations as a sign of our deep appreciation for his contribution to strengthening bilateral cultural relations.
The memory of Tonino Guerra as a brilliant creative talent and Russia’s true friend will remain forever in the hearts of millions of our citizens.
On behalf of the Russian people and myself, I express our sincere condolences. Please convey my sympathy and support to the family and friends of Tonino Guerra.”
