Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of Italy Mario Monti.
Mr Monti congratulated Mr Putin on his inauguration as President and wished him success in his high post.
The two leaders gave a high assessment of the current state of Russian-Italian relations and expressed the desire to make a joint effort to ensure they continue and to give them a new boost by developing cooperation in all different fields.
Mr Putin and Mr Monti discussed their planned contacts in various formats, including reciprocal visits and a planned round of top-level interstate consultations in the second half of the year.
