Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Italian Republic on Rail Transit of Arms, Ammunition, Military Technology, Military Equipment and Personnel via Russian Federation Territory in Connection with Participation by Armed Forces of the Italian Republic in Efforts to Stabilise and Rehabilitate the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
The Agreement was signed in Sochi on December 3, 2010.
In line with UN Security Council resolutions, the agreement is intended to lay the international legal foundation for the Russian Federation to offer transit via its territory of non-lethal freight for the International Security Forces for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (arms, ammunition, military technology and military equipment), as well as military and civil personnel of the Italian Republic’s Armed Forces to participate in operations to stabilise and rehabilitate the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
