Dmitry Medvedev sent his condolences to Cambodia’s King Narodom Sihamoni following the tragic loss of life in Phnom Penh.
The message reads, in part:
“I am greatly distressed by the news of the terrible tragedy in Phnom Penh, which caused extensive human casualties.
I deeply mourn together with you and the victims’ families and friends and wish a speedy recovery to everyone injured.”
The tragedy occurred on Monday evening during the festival to celebrate the end of the monsoon season, one of the major folk events in the country. According to the most recent figures, as a result of a bridge stampede, 375 people were killed and over 750 injured.
