November 26, 2016

Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma for ratification the Agreement between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Cases.

The Agreement was signed in Pyongyang on November 17, 2015, in the aim of developing the bilateral international legal base for cooperation on providing mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.

Under the Agreement, the parties undertake on a reciprocal basis and in accordance with the Agreement’s provisions to provide each other with legal assistance in investigations, court proceedings and other procedural measures concerning criminal cases. The Agreement defines the amount of legal assistance to be provided and sets out the requirements concerning form and content of requests for legal assistance and procedures for carrying out these requests.

The Agreement does not affect issues regulated by the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union and does not conflict with any of the Russian Federation’s other international agreements.
