Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Ratification of the Agreement Between the Russian Federation and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on Extradition.
The Agreement, which takes into account the modern contractual practice, the laws of the Russian Federation and international standards in this area, has been signed in Pyongyang on November 17, 2015, with the aim of expanding the international legal basis of the Russian-North Korean cooperation on extradition issues.
Under the Agreement, the parties agree, on a reciprocal basis and in compliance with the provisions of the agreement, to extradite the persons located in the territory of their countries for criminal prosecution or execution of a sentence in the requesting country. The treaty specifies the terms of extradition of the persons who have committed criminal offences and includes requirements to the form and content of an extradition request as well as how the request must be fulfilled.
