Law ratifying the Russian-Kazakh agreement on medical care to Baikonur Space Centre personnel

Vladimir Putin signed the law On Ratification of Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the Provision of Medical Care to the Personnel of the Baikonur Space Centre, the residents of Baikonur, Toretam and Akai as part of the Russian Federation’s rental agreement of the Baikonur Space Centre.

The Baikonur complex is an area leased by the Russian Federation in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The population of the city of Baikonur (up to 70% are citizens of Kazakhstan), Toretam and Akai are mostly employed at Russian enterprises based at the Baikonur Space Centre and receive medical care at Baikonur healthcare facilities.

In accordance with the Agreement, the healthcare facilities on the territory of the Baikonur complex are financed by Russia, and the healthcare facilities in Toretam and Akai by Kazakhstan. The competent authority on monitoring compliance with the Agreement on the Russian side is the Federal Medical-Biological Agency, and on the Kazakh side the Healthcare Ministry of Kazakhstan.
