Vladimir Putin submitted to the State Duma for ratification the Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan of May 25, 1992, which was signed in Astana on June 7, 2012.
The Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan of May 25, 1992 expired on October 10, 2012.
The Treaty is a fundamental document governing the relations between Russia and Kazakhstan, and it retains its political relevance and long-term perspective. However, some of its provisions need to be updated.
The Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty has been prepared in consultation with the Kazakhstani side. In addition to extending the Treaty, the Protocol provides for adjustments in some of the articles in the light of existing agreements on the development of economic integration through the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The Protocol was signed on June 7, 2012 in Astana by the President of the Russian Federation and the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
