At Russia’s initiative, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The President of Russia congratulated Mr Nazarbayev on his convincing victory in Kazakhstan’s presidential election on April 26.
The two leaders reaffirmed their shared desire to continue steady development in all areas of bilateral relations, based on the principles of strategic partnership and alliance.
They also discussed preparations for their bilateral meeting in May in Moscow and the multilateral preparations for celebrating the 70th anniversary of Victory in the 1941–1945 Great Patriotic War.
Earlier in the day, Mr Putin sent Mr Nazarbayev a message of congratulations.
